“Thankful (Thanksgiving 2023)”

I made it this far I didn’t die young
There’s a couple of people familiar with songs that I’ve sung
There’s food in the kitchen, a roof over my head
A good little dog my companion asleep on the bed
I’m thankful, so thankful
There are people I love
And people who love me back
I’m thankful, yes I’m thankful
Today I’m gonna think about what I’ve got
Not what I lack

I’ve traveled the world, there’s more I wanna see
But a walk in the woods is as good as a place I’ll ever be
Yes it is true, I’ve suffered my share
There’s gonna be more to contend with of this I’m aware
So I’m thankful, thankful
There are people I love
And people who have my back
I’m thankful, yes I’m thankful
Today I’m gonna think about what I’ve got
Not what I lack

I’m walking the streets no bombs exploding
And opportunities are still unfolding
I want joy, joy, so don’t get in the way
And I’ve got plenty of things inside still left to say, like I’m thankful

I made it this far I didn’t die young
The luck of the draw is a gift doesn’t go to everyone
That’s why I’m thankful, so thankful
For the people I love
And for the people who love me back
I’m thankful, yes I’m thankful
Today I’m gonna think about what I’ve got
Well if I’m bein’ honest it’s quite a lot
Yeah today I’m gonna think about all I’ve got
Not what I lack

“A Long Time Ago”

You are the tail
She is the kite
When she sets sail
You hold on for dear life
Buried below
Is a friend I used to know
A long, long time ago

You are the grunt
She’s in command
If she’s on the hunt
You’re stuck in quicksand
Buried below
Is a friend I used to know
A long, long time ago

There’s no one to blame but yourself
You’re way too far gone for our help
But if you decide to come in for a breather
No one would blame you if you had to leave her, no

Well you be the comet
Let her be the tail
You get right on it
And rise Alpha male
Buried below
Is a friend I used to know
A long, long time ago

Do you remember the way that you felt
Before making a deal with the devil itself
We miss the days when we all were connected
She sees a project that must be perfected

Oh don’t be a shadow
Step into the light
While she’s chasing rainbows
Go get your own life
Cause buried below
Is a friend we used to know
A long, long time
Such a long, long, long time ago

“Circling the Drain”

Every minute around the world
250 babies born
Some with a silver spoon, some with a bellyful of dreams
What ties them all together
The desire to uncover what life means

You can swim against the tide
You can stand in a hurricane
Try and scale a mountainside
Knowing it could be all in vain
Cause we’re circling the drain

There are times you’re flying high
When all the pieces lock in place
You’re on a gambler’s roll, you’ve got the golden touch all right
But just as quick the magic’s gone
Slipped right through your fingers overnight

You can swim against the tide
You can stand in a hurricane
Try and scale a mountainside
Knowing it could be all in vain
We’re circling the drain

Well you can try so hard you’re spinning
We’ve got this time on earth
Why not live it for all it’s worth
And be a little more forgiving
You can fill your cup with sun
Drink up every last drop until it’s done

You can swim against the tide
You can stand in a hurricane
Try and scale a mountainside
Knowing it could be all in vain
But we keep trying all the same
We keep circling the drain
Circling the drain
Circling the drain
Circling the drain

"My Lifeline"

I got something in my back pocket
I don’t wanna use it, I don’t wanna use it
But don’t judge me don’t ever knock it
And I won’t abuse it, I won’t abuse it
Cause I like knowing that it’s there
If desperation leads me bare
I’ve got a lifeline

My secret’s in a box and you can’t unlock it
Your curiosity’s showing, your curiosity’s growing
But if you push me, I’ll be off like a rocket
You’re better not knowing, it’s better not knowing
Cause it’s not pretty what you’ll find
You’d only try to change my mind
But it’s my lifeline
Yeah my lifeline
Yeah my lifeline
Oh my lifeline
Yeah my lifeline

I’ve got something in my back pocket
I doubt I will need it, I hope I don’t need it
But if I ever do you can write me a sonnet
And maybe you’ll read it, I’d like you to read it
I did not lightly reach this place
Nor did I get here by mistake
It’s always been a last escape
My lifeline
Yeah my lifeline
Yeah my lifeline
Oh my lifeline
Yeah my lifeline

“Born With a Broken Heart”

Born with a broken heart
Didn’t have it easy right from the start
You were born with a broken heart
In so many pieces still breaking apart
There’s a dream that’s slowly fading
From bright yellow down to gray
In fact it’s slipping farther away
Every day

Born with a different brain
That’s a whole lot of something for someone to claim
And you try but there’s so much pain
If it would be any comfort, I’d shoulder the blame
There’s a tiny light still shining
Sometimes it even glows
Then disappears you wonder where it goes
No one knows

Each morning that you wake up
Is a miracle all its own
With worries mounting, you keep on counting, and dig a deeper hole

Born with a restless soul
To a world not of your making you have no control
So your heart and mind and soul collide with nowhere else to go
To believe in a better tomorrow that’s the goal
And the days and years keep passing
I still don’t know what to do
The truth is that it breaks my heart too
Lovin’ you

Born with a broken heart, a broken heart, a broken heart

“East Porpoise Bay”

It’s a beautiful day East Porpoise Bay
The sun is shining
The birds are singing
It feels like bells should be ringing
Kids are playing
The geese are squawking
Even angry neighbors are talking
It’s a beautiful day East Porpoise Bay

It’s a terrible day at East Porpoise Bay
Clouds were looming
Now rain is pouring
My little dog obnoxiously snoring
The power’s out
The wind is blowing
And guess what it just started snowing
It’s a terrible day East Porpoise Bay

Sometimes a beautiful day
Turns sad and gray
And sometimes a terrible day
Gets beautiful, beautiful
It’s just that way hey
It’s just that way

Another beautiful day
At East Porpoise Bay
Now the sun is setting
There’s people smiling
Troubled couples all reconciling
The moon is full
The stars are gleaming
It’s a perfect night made for dreaming
It was a beautiful day at East Porpoise Bay

Sometimes a beautiful day
Turns sad and gray
And sometimes a terrible day
Gets beautiful, beautiful
It’s just that way
Yeah sometimes a beautiful day
Turns sad and gray
And sometimes a terrible day
Gets beautiful, beautiful
It’s just that way hey
It’s just that way hey
It was a beautiful day

“Unfinished Business”

Today I wanna fly away
Like the bird outside my window
Go somewhere new and make a nest
But pieces of a tangled mess
Keep pulling me down
And stop my flight

Walkin’ in and out of every room
Cause I know something is missing
I tried to provide happiness
And though I may have done my best
I failed in the end
You say and you’re right

Well, I’d do almost anything for you
Even if I never get forgiveness
I’m tethered to your soul whether you like it or not
And standing in the way is unfinished business

There’s nothing else that I can do
So patiently I’m waiting
There’s a hole we can’t ignore
I’m standing by an open door
Waving you in
But you’re out of sight

Well, I’d do almost anything for you
Even if I never get forgiveness
I’m tethered to your soul whether you like it or not
And standing in the way is unfinished business

Memories are tricky things
There’s always an interpretation
But I’ll defer to you, do what I have to do
If we can settle up the score and tie the ends up of our poor unfinished business

Well, I’d do almost anything for you
Even if I never get forgiveness
I’m tethered to your soul whether you like it or not
And standing in the way is unfinished business
Let’s get out of the way and talk it out today our unfinished business

“Everybody’s Drinking but Me”

Everybody’s drinking but me
I watch from behind door number 3
Can’t leave and can’t take part
Locked up inside my heart
Yeah everybody’s drinking but me

Everybody’s out on the town
I’m in the box that’s marked lost and found
Still waiting to be claimed
A player yet to be named
Yeah everybody’s out on the town

It’s a crooked road I’m traveling
As twisted as my thoughts unraveling

I hope a guiding light can find me
So I can put this darkness behind me

Everybody’s sleeping but me
I’m staring at the ceiling it’s quarter to 3
My brain is stuck in chatter
And nothing seems to matter
I’ll work it out eventually
Til then everybody’s drinking
Yeah everybody’s drinking
Everybody’s drinking
But me
